3 ways EMDR Therapy Can Be DOne Virtually

Virtual EMDR Therapy

Are you interested in doing EMDR therapy but unsure if it will work virtually? In this article, learn about virtual EMDR therapy from a licensed therapist. By the end of this blog post, you will have a sense of whether virtual EMDR therapy is right for you.

What is EMDR therapy?

EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a type of therapy to help you get unstuck from negative past experiences and beliefs. EMDR can help you reduce negative emotions from traumatic incidents and install new positive beliefs.

Can EMDR therapy be done virtually?

In a word, yes! There are a handful of ways that we can utilize the EMDR tools virtually so you can engage in healing from the comfort of your own home. Virtual EMDR therapy can make attending therapy more convenient for your busy life and help you achieve your healing goals.

1. One way EMDR therapy can be done virtually

Just like in person EMDR therapy, we can use eye movements in virtual EMDR therapy to reprocess distressing events. The way we do this is sending a link for a website that the therapist controls so you can see a ball moving across the screen.

2. Another way EMDR therapy can be done virtually

Some people don’t like using eye movements to reprocess traumas so we can also use tapping. Most often, the therapist will ask you to tap alternately on either your arms or your legs while thinking about a difficult past incident. This tool is equally effective in desensitizing difficult past incidents to aid in your healing.

3. This is a third example of virtual EMDR therapy

A third way of doing EMDR therapy virtually is to use sound. The therapist can control the sound while you’re processing a past incident using a link that will be sent to you during the EMDR session.

How do I find an EMDR therapist?

As you can see, EMDR therapy is very effective virtually. If you’re wondering if you may benefit from EMDR therapy, you can learn more by scheduling an introductory consultation call to learn about my virtual EMDR services.
